Reports to: Director of Operations

Summary of Position:

This person is responsible for leading commercial, industrial and institutional construction projects from inception through customer move-in.

Typical Duties:

  • Lead project teams including project engineer, project assistant and other office staff.
  • Use outstanding interpersonal, communication and customer-relations skills in developing and maintaining long-term relationships with clients, architects and subcontractors.
  • Job planning, job set up, project close out, obtain permits, review and understand plans and specifications, assemble and issue prime contract, subcontracts and change orders, create and update CPM schedule monthly using MS Project or Primavera Sure-trak, maintain project logs (RFI’s Submittals, PCO’s) using Prolog approve all job invoices and prepare monthly owner billings.
  • Run the owner/contractor weekly job meetings including timely follow up and distribution of minutes.
  • Work with and assist the superintendent in addressing issues, problem solving, reviewing the schedule and job cost forecast.
  • Review with the Director of Operations on a bi-weekly job status, logs and job cost analysis using reports and information from Prolog and Timberline Gold.
  • Work on the selected BCC team on proposals and presentations.
  • Work with and assist the estimating department in pre-construction.

Skills/Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in CM, engineering or architecture with eight or more years of similar experience with a Bay Area building contractor with a track record of successful project completions and high customer satisfaction. Excellent organizational, communication (both written and spoken) and leadership skills are essential. Must be able to both work at a “detail” level and think strategically while managing customer relationships. Solid computer skills in Excel and MS Word, including the proficient use of the following software: scheduling (MS Project or Suretrak) and Project management (Prolog) is vital. Must live in the Bay Area, preferably in the South Bay or Peninsula.

Position Status:
Full-time, regular business hours, exempt.

Summary of Position:

This is a regular, full-time, “exempt” position for recent or pending college graduates leading to a full-charge construction estimator or project manager position.

 

Duties:
As a PE, you will be teamed with an experienced project manager and perform project engineering functions on projects assigned to your team. These activities include: reviewing and coordinating submittals, preparing and reviewing RFIs, updating rolling schedules (later creating the schedule), tracking job budgets, preparing and analyzing prime and subcontract change orders, preparing meeting minutes, assisting with monthly prime contract billings and subcontractor invoices, and generally assisting the project manager in other areas as needed.

 

Skills/Qualifications:
B.S. in civil engineering, construction management or architecture with a commitment to the construction industry; strong organizational and communications skills, acute attention to detail, solid computer experience, proven ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently; proactive problem-solving style and ability to meet deadlines. Graduation must be from a university with accredited engineering program and a 3.0 or above grade point average.

Position duties: Plans, develops, coordinates and directs a number of important and complex land use projects, involving preparation of subdivision plans, redevelopment and community master plans. Works with clients and agencies to guide projects through the entitlement and environmental review process. Makes presentations to clients, community groups and at public hearings. Requirements:

Five to ten years civil design experience using AutoCAD and civil design software and one to three years experience working with Civil3D. CAD management, including CAD standards development and implementation and general CAD QA/QC oversight.

Responsibilities:

Duties for this position will be divided between CAD management and working as a civil designer on various projects.

CAD Management responsibilities will include implementing, maintaining, updating and documenting Civil3D templates and standards. Will develop and implement a Civil3D training program for new employees and provide ongoing day-to-day technical support in AutoCAD and Civil3D products. Will be responsible for researching and becoming familiar with new versions of Civil3D software as they are introduced and before they are rolled out to general production staff as well as integration with other software products. CAD Management responsibilities also include general oversight and implementation of company-wide CAD standards and Civil3D styles as well as general CAD QA/QC management.

The successful candidate will also be a very proficient civil designer who is able to work with minimal direction from the project manager on various design tasks. Design responsibilities will include grading and drainage, utilities, erosion control, paving plans, horizontal control and staking, topographic surveys and other related design tasks for various commercial and residential development projects.

Assignments may include one or more of the following: project design and development for grading and utility systems from master planning through construction, test of materials, preparations of specifications, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments.

Requirements:
Education/Registration B.S. Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent plus appropriate continuing education. Engineer-in-Training certificate required: registration as a California Civil Engineer preferred. In lieu of education, may hold a Engineer-in-Training certificate plus four years experience in civil engineering. Must qualify for and pass the California Civil Engineer examination within a reasonable time period.

Experience Performance at this level requires a minimum of two years developmental experience in a professional position or equivalent graduate level education plus experience.

Must be familiar with and experienced in civil engineering design, methods, and principles. Understands office computer systems and is proficient using appropriate engineering software such as CAD, computational programs, and spreadsheets.
